EDS Byron Nelson Championship We're Behind Something Great!

EDS BNC logo2008 marked EDS' sixth year as title sponsor of the EDS Byron Nelson Championship. And, we recently announced our commitment to continue as the title sponsor through 2014.

In October HP announced it will assume the title sponsorship from EDS, which the company recently acquired.

The championship is one of the best stops on the PGA TOUR, not only for its field, but because of its charitable contributions that benefits the Salesmanship Club Youth and Family Centers. The 2007 tournament was the sixth time in Championship history that the annual contribution exceeded the $6 million mark. Total contributions from the 2008 event are not currently available but all indications predict this year's results will be equally impressive. Topping the leaderboard in charitable contributions, the EDS Byron Nelson Championship has generated in excess of $100M – more than any other PGA tournament – and represents nearly 10 percent of the total charitable contributions generated by PGA TOUR events.

With these kinds of results, it might sound like we have a proven formula for success. Like we can do this with our eyes closed. But the reality is that each year brings new challenges. For example, immediately after a champion was crowned at the 2007 Tournament, preparations began for 2008 with a major renovation to the TPC course at the Four Seasons Las Colinas, home to the EDS Byron Nelson Championship. The project was completed in time for the 2008 tournament and the PGA TOUR players who participated in this year's tournament were unanimous in their praise of the redesign and the condition of the golf course, including the greens.

Other significant changes were implemented including a new layout for Champions Way, the main entry point to the tournament, and the unveiling of a kid-friendly zone. No detail was overlooked – right down to the color of the mesh used throughout the course.

EDS moved forward with a few plans of its own. We developed our “Caddy for a Caddie” program.

And, we are already planning and are looking forward to an even more exciting and memorable 2009 tournament.

Over the past several years, EDS has added a one-of-a-kind component to the EDS Byron Nelson Championship. Past elements included custom pinball machines and a custom-built Orange County Chopper that was featured on the TV program, American Chopper. This year was no exception.

EDS presented a Cadillac XLR-V to Tony Navarro the caddie of the 2008 EDS Byron Nelson Tournament champion, Adam Scott. Tony was greatly appreciative and understandably excited. He was interviewed by the Golf Channel and the print media many times and was the buzz on TOUR. Awarding a car to a caddie is a first in professional golf, and EDS is proud to lead the way with our “Caddy for a Caddie” program. Just as EDS is the world's business ally working behind the scenes to ensure our clients' success, we recognize that behind the triumph of every golf champion, there's a dedicated ally – the caddie.
